    Our History

God has blessed our church with a rich history and heritage.  Our church began as the United Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in 1848 with 12 charter members.  Our first church building was built in 1853 on land donated by President Harry S. Truman’s grandfather, Solomon Young.  In 1891, the church moved to the corner of Main St. and Grandview Rd in the newly plotted town of Grandview.  In 1913 the church name was changed to Grandview Baptist Church.  In 1950 our current building was dedicated and President Truman was present at that service.  He was a member of our church from 1916 until his death in 1972.  The name of the church was changed again in 1963 to the First Baptist Church of Grandview.

Our church has seen Grandview change from a rural population, to a thriving suburb of Kansas City; to the multi-cultural and mobile community it is today.  Throughout all these changes, our church has remained mission-minded and intent on spreading the gospel and ministering to our community.  We live in a fast-paced world that more than ever needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.  We know that God has good plans for the future of FBC Grandview.
